Channel 4

With the creative industry booming in the UK, TheTalentPeople and 4Skills partnership has aimed to inspire the next generation of talent to consider a career in the industry. 4Skills wanted to inspire and build future talent by engaging with young people of school age. They also wanted to develop a work experience offering due to the high volume of requests they had, lack of resources and age restrictions on site. Given the above, they partnered with TheTalentPeople to develop and deliver a school’s programme, as well as a scalable virtual work experience platform that still maintained a human element.

4Schools

The 4Schools project is aimed at Key stage 3 & 4 (11-16 year olds) students to encourage them to think about careers in the creative industry, particularly those from lower socio-economic backgrounds who may not have considered the creative sector as a potential career pathway. We designed both virtual and in person workshops, assemblies, and digital resources such as a careers quiz, that demonstrated the wide variety of career opportunities and show that the industry is accessible and relevant to all people from all backgrounds.

These materials were designed with the key stage 3 curriculum in mind, and all workshops collectively met Gatsby standards by providing contact with employers and industry market information, showing realistic and relatable examples from the industry. We also ran a ‘Pitch a Programme’ competition in which students submitted an idea for a new TV programme. 117 students took part in teams of around 4, with 12 schools across England getting involved.

The Outcome:

4Skills Virtual Work Experience

This virtual work experience programme was built to be accessible and flexible, so participants could engage from school or from home. The aim of this programme was to give insight into the creative industries and working for Channel 4. All content was on demand, so participants could work through it at their own pace, as long as it was complete before the deadline. We built 5 modules and an onboarding section that candidates had to complete in order to receive a certificate, a digital badge and an invite to a live online Q&A. In this event, we hosted Channel 4 representatives and asked them about their experiences and what routes they took to get into the industry. Each module followed the same structure to keep it simple and accessible for those completing it.

The Outcome:

We’re proud to contribute to impactful projects that bring about real change in people’s lives.
